BETASPORT SIGNS UNI MOWBRAY
28/07/2009
BETASPORT, TOTE Tasmania’s sports betting business, has signed a naming rights sponsorship with the University Mowbray Football Club.
The sponsorship, until the end of the 2010 season, includes a cash contribution and capped incentives.
University Mowbray President Stephen Salter said he was very pleased that an organisation like TOTE Tasmania through its BETASPORT business was keen to invest in grass roots football in northern Tasmania.
“Any criticism that these types of sponsorship arrangements encourage gambling amongst members is just ridiculous,” he said.
“Many members of the club already enjoy a punt.
“Through this arrangement the club benefits if they have a bet through BETASPORT rather than The TOTE’s interstate-based competitors.
“We believe it will be very good for the club – it’s a brilliant arrangement.”
TOTE Tasmania CEO Craig Coleman said the incentives BETASPORT was offering was an innovative way for sporting organisations to attract sponsorship support.
“The sponsorship arrangement we have negotiated with the Uni Mowbray club is all about building the BETASPORT brand which was launched in April,” he said.
“If a Uni Mowbray club member is going to have a bet, we want them to have a bet via BETASPORT.
“But at the same time, given the incentives that are in place, we will work with the club to ensure there is nothing in place to encourage members to gamble.”
