Men and women in white become marked property

The Wrest Point State League’s men and women in white will be marked property during the 2010 season, carrying the branding of The TOTE and BETASPORT in all home and away games and finals.

A new four-year deal between The TOTE and AFL Tasmania means that all umpires - field, boundary and goal - will carry The TOTE and BETASPORT logos on their Wrest Point State League match day apparel, with goal flags being branded as well.

The new arrangement is part of The TOTE becoming an AFL Tasmania premier partner, which also involves BETASPORT being licenced as the sole sports betting agency for the state league and naming rights sponsor of its umpires.

According to AFL Tasmania chairman, Dominic Baker, the decision of yet another leading brand to back Tasmanian football shows that companies are recognising how integral football is to the state’s communities.

“The TOTE is now the fourth major partner to come on board with Tasmanian football in the past 18 months. RACT Insurance, Hobart Media Centre and Cadbury have all seen the importance of football to the Tasmanian community, and want to be part of the action,” Baker said.

“This is great result for the Wrest Point State League, its 10 clubs, and AFL Tasmania.”

State umpiring manager/coach, Mike Brown, said his colleagues were delighted to receive the backing of The TOTE.

“Umpires are a pivotal part of the sport, so it is nice that a company like The TOTE wants to be associated with us in this way, recognise our contribution and put their logos on our uniforms,” Brown said.

“We always seem to receive plenty of attention out there, so I reckon it might be a great deal for all concerned.”

The TOTE’s Director of Operations, Brett Harris, said his company was particularly delighted to be backing the umpires.

“In Tasmania, our focus continues to be on getting our name out into the broader community, particularly the sporting community.

“AFL Tasmania and the TSL umpires provide a good vehicle to promote our business in the state. It’s a high-profile sport and an obvious next step for us in terms of sponsorship partners.

“BETASPORT already has numerous successful sponsorship arrangements in place with a variety of Tasmanian sports.”

Mr Harris said the four-year sponsorship package involved a financial contribution only.

In addition to being on the umpires’ shirts and jackets and the goal flags, The TOTE and BETASPORT logos will also be featured at TSL grounds as well.
